Thank you so very much for this amazing place. Seeing the amount of effort put into the preparation and decor of the rooms up to each minute detail was uniquely South African and comforting. Goeie more Sandra en Japie,Ek moet julle nogmals bedank vir die goeie ontvangs, lekker en netjiese verblyf, julle vriendelikheid, die uitstekende sonsondergang en opkoms en alles wat gepaard gegaan het met ons naweek saam met julle.Dit was asemrowend en 'n helse goeie ervaring om tussen die klowe, dale en riviere te kon geloop en verken het... (dit was al te koud vir my om in die poel te swem).Ons sal defnitief weer by julle oornag maar sal dan die Vrydag oorslaap om die wandelpaaie rondom die huisies die Saterdag en Sondag te gaan verken. Ek sal skreeu...Groete daar en alle voorspoed met die oes van julle proteas – dit staan in volle prag hierdie kant teen ons berg se hange.

 I stayed here for two nights and enjoyed the bungalow as well the surrounding nature with mountain views, little streams, walks between protea buds, blossoms and little birds and a sunrise over blue mountains very much.Thank you for this quiet,beautiful and peaceful place.

Huisie nr 5 .Ons het nie gister 'n pen gehad om 'n boodskappie te los nie, maar ek wil net julle laat weet dat ons die naweek ongelooflik baie geniet het en dat julle ons defnitief weer gaan sien!Ek het vanoggend gemerk dat Derek perongeluk twee van die huisie se vatdoeke saam ingepak het. Laat weet asb julle bankbesonderhede dat ons julle kan terug betaal daarvoor!Mooi week vir julle!

We had such a fantastic time at Onverwacht – the drive there was beautiful and so relaxing. Onverwacht really is high in the mountains and is so perfect for a weekend break and getting back to basics. It's rustic, self-catering, peaceful, perfect for kids, cost effective and offers some beautiful mountain walks. The views across the valley are stunning and the air is clear and crisp. We were fortunate enough to see mountain buck on our arrival too. Early on Saturday morning, we rode our bikes from Onverwacht into the little town of McGregor which was exceptional. It's a down-hill ride most of the way (approx 27km's) and the town welcomed us with a hearty breakfast at one of the many quaint restaurants. I would recommend Onverwacht for a weekend getaway and most certainly will return… Thanks once again to Sandra and Japie for their hospitality, it certainly was a weekend that we will remember!

We just want to let you know that we had an awesome week-end.  It was fantastic and we enjoyed every minute of it.  We went to bed at about 9 o'clock in the evening, something we never do at home.  All the trails that we walked was good and I feel so good today and well rest.Thank you very much for your hospitality.  We are planning on coming again the end of April and we want to bring the kids with.  I will confirm the exact dates with you later.Your place is really beautiful and we had a lot of fun.  I love all the little "ornaments" that were around the place - it gave so much character to the place.  Things that we normally see as junk and would through away, gave character to the place. I just stood in awe when I looked at the mountains and realised again how great and big our God is.Thanks again and you will hear from me very soon.Keep well and my God bless you and your business.Regards

Verlede jaar hierdie tyd het ons gesin al ernstig begin uitsien na ons Kersfees by julle huisies in die berg !  (Dis mos ek wat my lang braaitang daar agtergelos het.  Sal jou nog laat weet sodra ons weer kom kuier om hom dalk op te tel as jy dit nog het !)Die mooiste Kersseisoen vir julle !  Ons sal beslis met warmte terugdink aan laasjaar daar by julle pragtige bergvesting !!!Baie groete

ONVERWACHT is such an appropriate name for your wonderfu l'haven'you have up in the mountain.We came round a bend in the road-and suddenly there before us was this UNEXPECTED  magical place !The whole atmosphere up there makes one feel joyful- all your amazing succulents and little pathways, and signs, and interesting bits and pieces.Walking around there is a lovely experience and you can tell that this little piece of earth is loved and cared for and very special.And of course the views are breathtaking, and the proximity of the mountains just overwhelming.Delf, Roslyn, Elaine and I arrived on Saturday morning and the weather was glorious, clear skies, warm sun, still and tranquil.We settled very happily into No 7 - we love the way you have fitted it out-nice and rustic and comfortable-en daai kaggel !! Mense !Wat praat jy !

We took a really nice easy 8km walk to the pool,stopping often to examine the flora-wonderful to see the rebirth there after the fire.That took us about 2hrs 45mins.What a perfect swimming place !We enjoyed our lunch -  rested and chatted for a while  before starting back.By that stage the clouds had come in and lowered and we had a soft drizzle on our 2.5 hr walk back.Who cared ! Those mountains fill one with such  OOOMPH  that nothing seems to matter-especially not a little soft rain.We were treated to such a wonderful storm that night - and once again - who cared ! We were safe and warm in our bungalow with a great fire going, drinking Jerepigo,en ons het darem lekker GEKUIER ! !Delf managed to do a superb indoor braai-and we slept comfortably and warm .We woke to a beautiful sunrise and the start of a glorious day. Unfortunately we could not stay, but we all left Onverwacht,knowing that we WILL  be back,and feeling  re-energised and filled with joyful exuberance.The next time I come back it will definitely be for longer than just an overnight - thats for sure !Thank you both for enabling us to have access to such a  magnifiscent piece of  God's earth.Baie dankie dat julle hierdie plek so pragtig versorg-julle is seker'gekies 'vir hierdie groot en belangrike taak.Alles van die beste - tot volgende keer.

Weereens baie dankie vir die onvergeetlike ontvangs op die bordjie by die hek. Die manne kon dit nie glo nie. Die een man was vir n paar jaar n toergids en hy dink dit is iets besonders om ons so te verwelkom. Almal, ek ingesluit,  wat jou ontmoet het dink jy is iemand besonders en het gevra dat ek hulle waardeering en dank aan jou moet oordra. Tucked away in the beautiful mountains of McGregor, lies a little gem called ‘Onverwacht’..

Of course South Africans will know that this means ‘Unexpected’, which is exactly how we felt as we drew closer to this unknown special place. We had no idea what to expect and were greatly surprised to find this little peace of heaven located right on top of the ‘Boesmanskloof Valley’. The views are simply breathtaking. Huge mountain faces staring back out of the valley, that did, admittedly, feel surreal, if not slightly intimidating! What a magical feeling to be faced with nature so close and so powerful. The endless valley stretches all the way to Greyton showing off a spectacular scene of small valleys and mountain tops. The mountains are covered with miles and miles of indigenous Fynbos, including Pincushions, Sewe Jaartjies, Proteas and Catspaws. The richness of the Fynbos is very special indeed. The bungalows were also a pleasant surprise with loads of space; beds, a fireplace and a characteristic stone table and benches in the ’dining area’. It was a novel and much needed experience to have no electricity. Our gas lamps, hot water, fridge and braai area were all we needed to feel very comfortable and at peace within this incredibly special part of the world! We will definitely be returning to this magical, peaceful, special place very soon!! Thank you to our very attentive and warm hosts Sandra and Japie Oosthuizen who made sure we had everything we needed everyday for our extended stay! You gave us a very special experience and we can’t wait for the next time!
